The recent pandemic has had an immense negative impact on children's minds, with long term effects on their mental health. Children experienced extended periods of physical isolation from friends, extended family and teachers, as well as a general lack of social connection. Isolation is a huge contributor to mental health issues because we are all naturally social beings. Infants and preschool children were particularly affected by the isolation. Allie wanted to help parents, teachers and educators make positive changes in children's lives by creating a teaching aid to help them explore emotions and feelings, as well as a strategy for coping with them. This first book addresses the implications of loneliness on young minds, and also brings to light the challenges and present needs of children after the lockdown period. The more children talk about their feelings and emotions, the better they feel, the more open we all are, and we can eventually find our happy.

Research shows that reading and attainment go hand in hand. Reading to children helps them expand their mind and be more creative. It also strengthens interpersonal relationships. Even for older children to read to younger ones can be a comfort on all levels. Studies show that reading promotes cognitive development and improves language skills, especially during a time when interaction is limited. The books featuring Mabel will help children learn to express themselves. If children learn about experiences through a book they can then apply them to situations in real life.
Allie was previously a primary school teacher. After leaving and setting up a consultancy business with her husband she missed sharing stories with her pupils the most. As a teacher Allie made a conscious effort to make her lessons engaging and fun. She recognised that children would be more willing to learn and participate in this type of environment. She understood that quality education transforms lives. Therefore it made sense to continue that philosophy with children's books to emotionally reach young children, not only during the pandemic but to have far reaching significance in later life.
During lockdown in rural Leicestershire, Allie observed the isolation and it's negative impact on her own family and others around her. She was intrigued; recognising the comfort and entertainment provided by her pet cats but mostly from Mabel her pet dachshund. This inspired her to create Mabel as a character, and to write her very first book. The book provides an aid for parents and educators, and gives a strong and important message to children as well as essential coping strategies for these unprecedented times.

Every parent loves to see their children happy. So do we. Here's a little peek into what the little ones are saying!
I am grown up now and can read this on my own. I used to feel sad sometimes when I didn't see my friends and I didn't feel happy sometimes when I did see them at football or cubs. Mommy and I talked and I felt much better like Mabel.

I took my book in for my class. Miss Middleton read it to us on the carpet. Everyone was listening and happy, the teacher talked to us sometimes about Mabel.
Hilal
Mabel is cute like my doggie Floyd. I like mommy to read it every bedtime. After that, we make makaton signs for feelings. I like the pictures and the shiny cover.
Indie
I like the book because I can talk to my daddy about if I'm worried like Mabel. Daddy asks me what I think Mabel would do if she was upset too. I also like it and laugh when she barks at squirrels and chases birds.
